ABIC is currently delivering a new three-storey Science Building designed by McIldowie Partners, providing state-of-the-art learning facilities within a highly constrained and operational school campus. The project involves the demolition of existing facilities and the construction of a contemporary educational building while maintaining the safety and uninterrupted operation of the surrounding school environment. Through detailed staging, careful logistics planning and close collaboration with the school and consultant team, works have progressed successfully with minimal disruption to staff, students and day-to-day school activities.
The building incorporates a range of specialised learning environments, including modern science laboratories fitted with fume hoods, Trespa benchtops and associated services infrastructure. Architectural highlights include a striking coloured and Reckli-lined precast concrete façade, indoor amphitheatre, and integrated internal planters and gardens that contribute to a stimulating and engaging learning environment. The complexity of the building services, specialist laboratory requirements and high-quality finishes has required careful coordination and proactive management throughout all stages of construction.
Complementing the building works is an extensive external works package comprising over 3,200m2 of landscaping and a large, landscaped terrace located on the upper level, providing valuable outdoor learning and breakout spaces for students and staff. Despite the challenges associated with the restricted site conditions, live school environment and complex design features, the project continues to progress successfully through ABIC’s disciplined project management approach, experienced delivery team and commitment to quality, safety and programme outcomes.
